Aura is a recipient of a FABRIC Residency 2024 to 2025, where we offer a programme to provide artists based in the UK with money, space, and staff time to explore new ideas and support the realisation of projects. Find out more about Aura’s residency at FABRIC here.

AURA (1997. Porto-London) is a transdisciplinary artist interested in identity and sustainability issues and co-founder of Asterisco, a space and platform for underrepresented artists.

This trans-led project explores the intersection between artistic research and practice, digital and physical elements, the trans community and the society. First produced in Portugal with two supporting casts, it’s an ongoing project that consists in the transposition of trans experiences into contemporary practices that fuse audiovisuals and collective performances.

Aura is now looking for creatives to join her in Nottingham. The 4 creatives will join her in a creative process during a 2-week residency in September at FABRIC in Nottingham and will perform in Nottingham, Birmingham, London and Leeds.

Who is this for?

Those who identify as trans with interest, and training or experience in performing arts (performance, dance or theatre). Aged 18 or over and ideally based in the Midlands*.

For Trans*Performativity, trans includes anyone within the transgender spectrum (trans men, trans women, non-binary, androgynous, demiboy, demigirl, two-spirit, genderqueer, genderfluid, agender, intersex, gender non-conforming, crossdressers, gender questioning people, and more).

*The Midlands is Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, Derbyshire, Dudley, Leicester, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Sandwell, Shropshire, Solihull, Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Telford and Wrekin, Walsall, Warwickshire, Wolverhampton and Worcestershire.

What to expect?

Online Interview
Aura will invite interested creatives who meet the eligibility for an informal online interview.

This will be an opportunity to meet Aura and discuss the project in more detail. From the interview Aura will select 4 creatives who she feels will be best suited for this collaboration.

You should be available and committed for the residency period and performance dates. There is a space in the application to share any dates and times that are not possible for you. Aura will take this into consideration when scheduling the time together.
