Over the time I have been working as a CAT assistant I have some fantastic memories.

I remember the first summer school I assisted where the students had to create dance films inspired by an artist. I was absolutely blown away by the creativity of the films that the CAT Students produced and it was great to see their reactions to watching the films they had made.

Changing Perceptions was a major piece of research Dance4 CAT commissioned Trinity Laban to undertake.

Although there is still much to do to remove barriers for young disabled people to access the same opportunities as their non disabled peers, the Dance4 CAT made an important contribution to change and we had a lot of fun whilst doing it.

Watching the Dance4 CAT students working outdoors with Australian Choreographer Luke George at Lakeside Arts Centre was really fantastic. In ‘Public Actions’, Luke proposes alternative constructs to the idea of community in response to a shared sense of crisis today, and this experience really was alternative – one that I doubt the students will ever forget. It was great to see the students as part of Dance4’s Nottdance Festival, and collaborating with an international artist.

Being a part of the CAT programme opened my eyes to so many more opportunities within the dance sector.

The space we have to develop our own movement vocabulary, the space we have to grow as young creatives, the space we have to actually learn without the pressure of exams is so so liberating and empowering.
