OUTBOUND is an artist-development programme designed to empower artists to build networks, relationship, audiences and opportunities outside their locale and identify the challenges and opportunities independent artists face when looking to tour.

This is done in partnership between a network of 7 dance organisations based across the UK, running as a 12-month programme from January to December.

Through OUTBOUND we offer provocations, knowledge and peer support with the intention to expand participating artists’ UK touring and dissemination possibilities. The programme is documented via rigorous evaluation of both the programme and artists involved.

Who is it for?

OUTBOUND is aimed at choreographers who:

  • have a new work in development
  • haven’t toured or worked outside their local context extensively already
  • are looking to connect with new networks to support their touring aspirations

There are 6 selected artists for each 12-month programme and each artist is connected with a staff member from at least one of the partner organisations.

Programme Structure
There will be 6 meetings, 1 every 2 months. The initial kick off meeting takes place in-person with the rest of the sessions done remotely (online).

For each meeting an organisation and an artist will work collaboratively to plan and deliver the session. Each meeting will follow a broadly similar structure:

  • Small group catch-ups to discuss what artists are working on and general updates. Groups will be encouraged to work together to come up with practical advice and support.
  • A provocation or presentation on a key topic with an intervention for an invited speaker, or partner organisation plus discussion
  • Time for 1 to 1 meetings between artists and organisations that haven’t connected

Fee

Artists receive £1000 fee to attend session plus travel, accommodation and per diems for the first meeting.
