CROWD – international dance exchange is a collaborative network of dance organisations. Together as a network, CROWD supports dance makers with a community-engaged practice through an annual residency programme.

Taking place across Finland, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands and the UK from July to October. 2023 CROWD international dance exchange residency programme supported 10 dance artists to explore and develop their practice and understanding of community-engaged dance.

The 2023 CROWD – international dance exchange programme supported another 10 artists to come together in pairs for two 2-week residencies hosted by the partners. We hosted CROWD residencies on both our Nottingham and Birmingham sites. Bakani Pick-Up (UK) and Shaquille George (NL) were in residence in our Nottingham studios facilitated by Usha Mahenthiralingam, while Chelsea Gordon (UK) and Hubert Mielke (DE/PL) were in residence in our Birmingham studios facilitated by Adam Carver.

On the penultimate day of their residencies, both the Nottingham and Birmingham artists and facilitators gathered at iC4C in Nottingham to extend their dialogue on community practice.
