Bodies in Flight were in residence at iC4C periodically between January and June 2019 working on their work Life Class.

Bodies In Flight make performance work that has an encounter between flesh and text where words move and flesh utters, where the ordinary is made central and rendered unique.

The company are fascinated by this in-between: between body and mind, capability and desire, between the everyday and the extraordinary, between technologies of sound and vision – the tongue and the camera, between artistry and pedagogy. Their work has often been described as cutting edge & accessible, attracting a wide cross-section of audiences.

Life Class is a brand new work that celebrates our greatest, most memorable, most requested role – ourselves.

Through poetic text, music and intricate choreography it asks: how did we end up playing this part, in this scene, with these lines? And wonders – who’s this dancing opposite? How do the people we share our lives with determine who we are, make us, us?

Drawing upon and working with tea dancers and a male voice choir, Life Class is presented beside the Flesh and Text exhibition that celebrates 30 years of ground-breaking work by the company.

Bodies in Flight performed their work on Friday 21 June 7.30om at Djanogoly Theatre, Lakeside Arts Nottingham.
