Elevating Youth Voice in the Arts with Participation People

Wed 22nd Jan 2025, 5:00pm and 6:45pm

Wednesday

Location: Online

In this dynamic and inclusive virtual workshop led by Participation People, we’ll dive into how arts organisations can truly amplify the voices of young people, disabled and non-disabled.

Using Lundy’s Model of Child Participation, we’ll explore how to create safe, inclusive spaces that empower young people to shape their own artistic journeys and influence decision-making. Through practical tools, strategies, and real-world examples, participants will learn how to build capacity, develop youth-proof policies, and establish youth boards that drive meaningful change in the arts sector.

This event is split into two sessions:

5 – 6.15pm Arts Organisations Session, for anyone working with or aiming to work with young people to inform their work.
6.45 – 8pm Young People Session, for young people aged 15 – 25 or up to 30 if disabled.

By the end of this virtual workshop, participants will:

  1. Understand Lundy’s Model of Child Participation and its application in creating safe, inclusive spaces for young disabled people in the arts.
  2. Recognise the importance of youth voice in decision-making processes, particularly for projects involving young disabled artists.
  3. Learn strategies for capacity building and artist development specifically tailored for disabled and neurodiverse participants.
  4. Develop skills in creating and implementing youth-proof policies and checklists to ensure ongoing inclusive practices within organisations.
  5. Gain insights into inclusive youth engagement practices that support young disabled people in forming and expressing their opinions while influencing artistic and organisational decisions.

Let’s collaborate to ensure every voice is heard and every artist has the opportunity to shine!
