Romy Whai Films is inviting people across the East and West Midlands to be part of a collaborative online film campaign launching Fabric’s curatorial values: curiosity, disruption and joy.

This film centres real Midlands people and real movement, exploring how dance lives not only on stages and in studios, but in the everyday rhythms of life.

We’re interested in the movement that happens:

• in kitchens and bedrooms 
• at bus stops and in parks 
• in dance classes, clubs, workplaces and living rooms 
• in moments of joy, curiosity and disruption. 

Real people. Real movement. Real Midlands.

Who can take part

• Aged 18+ 
• Based in the East or West Midlands 
• Anyone who dances or moves – for fun, as a hobby or professionally 
• All styles, bodies, backgrounds and experiences welcome 
• Able to film on a smartphone or camera
  

What’s involved

• Film short clips on your own phone or camera 
• Around 10 seconds per clip 
• Capture movement from your everyday life 
• Submit up to 10–20 clips (you can submit fewer or even more if you like!) 
• Film in your own time – no set schedule 
• Upload your footage by 14th February to be included 
• Participation is voluntary and flexible.

About the film

This project is an online social media campaign created for Fabric, a Midlands-based strategic dance development organisation.

The campaign will consist of three one-minute films, combining self-filmed dance footage from real people with professional videography capturing the Midlands at its best.

Led by Romy Whai Films, the films explore Fabric’s curatorial values of joy, curiosity and disruption, and how they show up in everyday life.

We’re interested in how these values live in intimate, messy, vibrant and very human moments – and how dance helps shape the Midlands as an authentic, living place.
