Hank Bamberger

Hank Bamberger is an artist, dancer, choreographer, and teacher with over fifteen years of experience in the dance world. As a performer, artistic director, and conceptual artist, Bamberger has trained vigorously in diverse movement lexicons such as theatre, musical theatre, improvisation, experimental film, and visual arts.

He is educated in dance pedagogy, composition, and choreography, and specializes in modern, jazz, contemporary, ballet and avant-garde forms/techniques. Bamberger danced with the Paul Taylor II Dance Company from 2010 to 2015, where he taught master classes in modern dance technique, as well as the very distinguished Paul Taylor style. While in the company, he performed as a soloist in the US and worldwide. After his tenure with the company, he went on to serve as the Artistic Director of the West End Academy of Dance in Richmond, VA.

Since 2018, Mr. Bamberger has been an active dance maker creating work within his own improvisatory-experimental dance company, Bamberger Dance Projects. He has worked with the United Nations, Design Pavilion NYC, Azimut Yachts, and Global Fashion Exchange (GFX) for ocean sustainability and Earth Day in New York. In 2019, Bamberger was selected as an Emerging Choreographer by the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning’s 10th Annual Making Moves Dance Festival.

Bamberger earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with a concentration in modern dance from Marymount Manhattan College (May 2009). He holds his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in dance and choreography from Sarah Lawrence College (May 2020). Mr. Bamberger was the Ballet Specialist at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the 2020/2021 school year, and has continued to teach and perform as an independent freelance artist.

He was a board member of the Firehouse Theatre (experimental theatre) in downtown Richmond, VA for 2020/2021, put up a performance installation series with dancers during the pandemic for Firehouse Theatre’s 2020 Fall season, performed as a recurring guest artist with the Latin Ballet of Virginia for their 2020/2021 seasons, recently taught a queer workshop in desires and spatial orientation at Dogtown Dance Theatre in Richmond, VA, taught classes and workshops regularly at more than seven dance schools in Virginia during 2020/2021, and lectured a masterclass series of workshops in upstate New York. Bamberger now lives in Birmingham, UK where he is pursuing his PhD in choreographic practice-as-research at Coventry University’s C-DaRE Program.
