Dickson Mbi

Born in Cameroon, Dickson Mbi is a world renowned choreographer, dancer and composer. Growing up in East London, Dickson discovered the popping scene and has since created ground-breaking hip-hop & contemporary dance performances.

Dickson is an esteemed role model and inspires the future generation of dancers with Brooke Milliner in their co-founded battle crew, Fiya House. He has worked with artists across many genres such as Russell Maliphant, Robbie Williams, Corrine Bailey-Rae and the Black-Eyed Peas.

Dickson has created major choreographic works for himself and for leading international companies. Sadler’s Wells Theatre, the UK’s leading dance venue, commissioned Street to Stage about Dickson’s artistic journey for BBC4’s Danceworks series.  Combining skills as a composer with his choreography he co-wrote the score to his 2023 Olivier Award winning solo show Enowate. In September 2023 Twice Born for Scottish Ballet premiered to great acclaim. It was accompanied by his first score as sole composer.

Dickson has participated in multiple TV campaigns including Balmain X H&M (2016), Audi e-tron(2014), and was the face for Lucozade Revive (2012).
“Mbi has created an exhilarating, epic piece which leaves you feeling that you could be watching the work of another Pina Bausch or Akram Khan or Matthew Bourne, or any of the modern choreographers who have turned contemporary dance into a superstar medium, knitting together artistic rigour with accessibility and broad appeal.”

A performer of astonishing strength and agility, communicating delicacy and struggle with his choreography… watch him and marvel, knowing you’re seeing an artist who’s going to be very significant in the future of contemporary dance.
