nottdance is a festival of extraordinary dance, presenting choreographic ideas and works from across the city of Nottingham and around the world, asking ‘what can dance be?’

The festival has always embraced experimentation, inviting radial perspectives, listening to artists working in ways that don’t fit the traditional, choreographic mould.  Now, for the 2025 edition, which takes place from Wednesday 8 October to Saturday 1 November, nottdance asks: ‘Shall we dance?’, ‘Are we dancing?’

With this ambition, FABRIC, producers of the festival, are delighted to offer two opportunities for people to get involved: the public as makers.

The Nottingham Ensemble

Working with Director Alan Lyddiard and Choreographer Tamara McLorg, participants are invited to share their stories of dance in the city of Nottingham, becoming part of the ensemble, sharing life through stories, performance, music and dance. Any age, background, or experience, to take part all you need is to have engaged with dance in some way, in the City.

Time Keeps the Drummer

This new touring show is for a cast of local children aged 8 to 11, who will work with the company’s award-winning directors. Through movement, improvisation, projection, music and lighting, selected young performers will create an ever-evolving experience. Each performance shaped in real-time, making every show different and unpredictable. Sometimes it will be like a show; other times, more like a live gallery installation.
