Scratch Night with East Midlands Dance Artist Network (EMDAN)

Led by East Midlands Dance Artist Network (EMDAN) in partnership with FABRIC and Lakeside Arts, this Scratch Night will have five artists from the East Midlands share their works-in-progress followed by a curated Q and A after each sharing.
Each sharing will be up to 10 minutes of dance/physical performance/movement of work-in-progress. This Scratch Night is part of EMDAN’s mentoring programme, which artist will have received mentoring support in the following areas; choreography with Sophie Thorpe, dramaturgy with Pete Shenton, career sustainability with Ruth Lee and well-being with Jen Summer.
You’re invited to attend this event and have opportunity to gain insight into the creative dance and movement work, processes and ideas being developed by a range of wonderful local artists and companies from across the region.
Following the Scratch Night, Superfan will be performing STUNTMAN the same evening at Lakeside Arts at 7.30pm. Make a night of it and grab tickets to see this work while it’s in Nottingham.
Performing Artists for the Scratch Night
MSDC – Megan Hooley and Danni Chell (Derby)
Together, Megan and Danni have developed and shared a distinctive choreographic practice rooted in contemporary dance, marked by fluid floorwork, dynamic contact work, and acrobatic influences. They are currently developing a new duet which began to form in 2023, drawing inspiration from the rhythmic complexity of musical composition.

Bethany Smith (Derby)
Bethany is a dance and theatre artist at Hubbub Theatre. She is an accomplished dancer/physical performer and a confident choreographer, improviser, and devisor. She will be exploring her solo work Journeys about nature and trial and error.

Kim Bormann (Nottingham)
Kim is a German-Chinese movement artist with a wealth of experience teaching, performing and directing. Her interest and research lie in the use of Taoist ideas to deepen her somatic understanding and evolving practice, Self in Context | The Thinking Body | Circular Dynamics. Her work will be a continuation of exploring objects and settings, intimately connected to her practice, instrumental to bridging worlds of inward somatic relevance and outward storytelling.

Ria Ashcroft (Nottingham)
Ria is an award winning Director, Performer, Theatre Maker, Dramaturg & Mum. Co-Artistic Director of Rebel Sparks (formerly The Gramophones) and Circus Hub. She is currently developing a new piece WOLFBITCH (working title), which explores the complexity of female rage through the language of dance, movement & circus.

Rebekah Heathcote (Leicester)
Rebekah is a performance artist, choreographer, and facilitator currently completing an MA in Choreography at De Montfort University. Their practice is rooted in contemporary improvisation, with a fluid interest in queer movement, live art, and digital forms. They will be exploring their current work Perspectives, a multidisciplinary performance exploring queer identity through movement, live painting, and visual art.
