Deciphers: Workshop with Naishi Wang & Jean Abreu

Location: Birmingham
Venue: Birmingham Hippodrome, Level 5 Studios

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to engage with internationally renowned artists Jean Abreu (Brazil/UK) and Naishi Wang (China/CA), co-creators of Deciphers, a compelling interdisciplinary performance.

The workshop will explore movement as a tool for translation, incorporating elements of Chinese folk dance, Brazilian dance styles, spoken word, breath, and ink on paper. It will allow individuals to investigate the role of dance in communication, language, and cross-cultural exchange.

In addition to the practical exploration of choreographic methods used in Deciphers, participants will have the opportunity to attend a live performance of the work, gaining deeper insight into the creative process and its themes of translation, misunderstanding, and the immigrant experience.
