Malik Nashad Sharpe

Malik Nashad Sharpe (b. 1992, New York) is an artist working with choreography. They create performances that are formally experimental and engaged with the construction of atmosphere, affect, and dramaturgy. Their performances often utilise social themes and topics as portals to unveil and unearth ulterior and the undercurrent perspectives. Often making underneath their alias and aesthetics project marikiscrycrycry, they have been especially concerned with the affective and textural qualities of dance and how it can transform, disarm, and critically reflect upon mourning and melancholia.

They are based in London, U.K., frequently performing in theatres, galleries, and festivals across the U.K. and internationally. Their work has been shown in festivals like American Realness (NYC), Fierce Festival (UK), NOW19 (UK), Festival for Alternative Theatrical Expression (HR), Submerge (NYC), and they have been supported by a wider range of venues and institutions like Arts Council England, The Marlborough Theatre, Canada Council for the Arts, a-n, Duckie, ArtsAdmin, Studio 303, New Queers on the Block, Theatre La Chapelle Scenes Contemporains, The Yard Theatre, Chisenhale Dance Space, amongst many others. They have taught workshops at Glasgow School of Art, School of New Dance Development, London Contemporary Dance School, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Tate Modern, and others. They are currently Associate Artist at Hackney Showroom Productions, Schools Artist-in-Resident at Tate Britain.
