The Keep Moving Programme was The Dance Leaders Group and Fabric’s ongoing legacy programme from the hugely successful Critical Mass project.
The Critical Mass legacy
Critical Mass was a major dance and movement project commissioned by the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, in collaboration with the Dance Leaders Group (DLG) and executively produced by Fabric.
The project brought together 242 young people aged 16–30, with and without disabilities, to form a united dance cast that performed as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival, the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham International Dance Festival and Festival 23 in Centenary Square.
Building on the relationships and learning from Critical Mass, Fabric continued to support young people through the Keep Moving programme. This legacy work engaged 200 young people across the West Midlands, embedding opportunities for participation, workforce development and learning around inclusion, access and disability within the region’s dance ecology.

The Keep Moving strands
The programme included three interlinked strands of activity that address inclusive participation, platforming & showcasing, and artist development.
From September 2023 – March 2025, Fabric worked closely with funder United by 2022, the DLG network and a number of Midlands delivery partners to continue to build on the work achieved so far.
