Oksana Tyminska

Little Movers Tutor (UK)

Oksana Tyminska is a Nottingham based dance artist, choreographer, and performer with over 30 years’ experience in community, education and professional spaces such as galleries, parks and theatres.

Fascinated in how babies begin to move, Oksana has spent many years exploring work with children in their early years, investigating how a child’s reflexes start to kick in and how development starts for children in physical movement before anything else.

Oksana is passionate about connecting people through the physical form of dance and uses objects as part of her process. Play is an important part of Oksana’s practice and she continues to find many new discoveries with objects such as feathers, shiny emergency blankets, Lycra, sponge, paint, fabric, mark making material, projection, cellophane and much more during her work. Oksana believes that any space can be a place of discovery and works both indoors, in school/community halls and studio spaces, and outdoors exploring nature, natural objects and woodlands.

In addition to her early years practice, Oksana has extensive experience with school aged children, older people and participants with disabilities and visual impairments.

Performance work with Turned On Its Head included the creation of immersive participatory theatrical performances for young children and their families including the works ‘and then there were two’ (2011), Shiny (2013), Sponge (2016) and Sponge Play (2017). She has also delivered training in dance for teachers in primary settings and created an early year’s resource pack called Small Steps, Big Moves.

Oksana is currently a member of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) learning team, working as an Artist Educator leading schools/educational tours and family events which respond to the exhibitions at the park. She is also an Early Years Project Manager and Creator of Let’s Get Moving! a screening project for early years practitioners to help observe for visual impairment in young children for Vista Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Oksana leads Little Movers, our Friday morning creative movement sessions at iC4C for 0 – 5 year olds and their families.
