Neil and Simone undertook two residencies at iC4C in 2021 as they developed Present Resonances,
A project born from a deep interest in resonance, both as a sonic phenomenon and as a metaphor for how we understand what lingers in the body.
During a remote residency in January and February 2021, they explored how bodies create sound and resonate within their surrounding environment. This early research laid the foundations for three new works that could be adapted for both indoor and outdoor settings, and presented either together or as standalone performances.
They returned for a second residency in December 2021, continuing their research into the resonance of acoustic spaces. Working in the studio at iC4C and at sites across Nottingham, they investigated the resonance of a gong in different environments and its effects on the body. This period of research enabled them to develop a performance score that could be adapted and presented in a variety of contexts.
Present Resonances explored the relationship between movement, sound and space, examining how bodies generate sound and how resonance can shape our experience of place, memory and presence.
This research in January and Februaury was supported by Dance4 and Yorkshire Dance.
